Dear Parents/Caregivers
SMOOTH TRANSITIONS
Yesterday we finished our transition visits for new reception students starting at our school in 2019.
We have had three very successful visits to new classes full of excitement and anticipation. This year we welcomed new parents with a morning tea in the library and a range of guest speakers. Our SRC students spoke to new parents about the benefits of our school and their involvement in Student Action Groups. An information session run by Erin Clarke, our DECD Behaviour coach, provided valuable ideas to help children’s long-term learning capabilities. Andrew Wright spoke to parents about the role of Governing Council, Janita Bentley provided information about parents and friends and Jenni Forder talked about the pastoral care programme.
Copies of Erin's information are available from the front office if you were unable to attend this session.
Our Yr. 7 students are also currently visiting their High Schools for next year, whilst busily preparing themselves for next week's graduation.
CLASS STRUCTURES 2019
We are currently in the process of finalising class placements and teacher appointments for 2019. Next Wednesday, before recess, students will visit their new classrooms for 2019. A notification slip regarding 2019 class placement will be included in the report envelope which will go home to all families on Wednesday afternoon. At this stage the Department for Education are still finalising positions, so not all of our 2019 teachers are known.
The following teachers will join us in 2019:
Michelle Govett - Reception
Kerri Campbell - Yr. 1
CELEBRATION NIGHT
We look forward to joining with families next Tuesday for our Celebration Night where we will sing Christmas and Celebration songs, present books to our Graduating Yr7’s, farewell staff members who are leaving us and celebrate the year that has been.
A Celebration Night programme will be sent to all families in a separate email and provided for families on the night.
FAREWELL BEV MULKERIN
This Friday we will have a special assembly at 2:45pm to pay tribute to Bev Mulkerin who has been an important part of our school for many years. We hope that you can join us to hear all about her successes and achievements. Parents are welcome to join us in the library at the conclusion of this assembly for an afternoon tea.
SPORT NEWS
At this time we do not have coordinators for either Basketball or Soccer. These sports will not be available for students to participate in without a coordinator. Please contact the front office if you are considering one of these positions.

IBMYP STUDENT INITIATED PROJECT SHOWCASE
Last Thursday our Yr 6 and 7 students very proudly displayed their recently completed Student Initiated Projects. Those who attended were treated to a wide variety of projects which stem from an area selected, to explore, which is connnected to a Global Context. The SIP process involves students selecting an area of interest and developing a problem to solve using the stages of the IBMYP design cycle. The learning that occurs throughout the project is just as important as the end product and requires students to develop a design brief and design specification, including success criteria and an examination of existing connected solutions. As usual students actively engaged parents and families in discussion about their learning journey, including successes and challenges along the way. Congratulations to all our senior students who demonstrated excellent innovation and persistence to complete their projects.
Many thanks to families and friends for actively supporting this process and celebrating achievements at our showcase.
Congratulations to all the Year 5 students and their teachers for a very successful PYP Exhibition on Tuesday 27th November. The opportunity to share their learning with the school community is an important part of the Primary Years Programme. It is a showcase of what these children have collectively learned across the programme during the time at Coromandel Valley Primary School.
Each student chose a significant global issue connected to the transdisciplinary theme “Sharing the Planet.” The central idea was “Decisions and actions contribute to global balance.” Groups of students presented their thinking visually and collaboratively talked about what they had learned during the entire process. Each group designed and developed an interactive component to provoke thinking about their issue with the audience.
When reflecting on their year, students said this was the most significant unit of inquiry as it was about something they learned a lot about and could make a difference to lots of people in our world.
Student action was well represented in each group and we look forward to many of these students continuing to put their ideas into practice at our school as they move into the Middle Years Programme.

YR3 - 7 GIRLS CROWS FOOTBALL CLINIC
On the 20th November all the girls from year 3 - 7 went to the gym for a girls footy clinic. Two of the players from the AFLW (Ebony Marinoff & Sarah Perkins) were hosting the footy clinic. The other helper was Maddie who was a helper.
They taught us new skills such as kicking, marking, and hand balling. All of the girls really enjoyed this clinic, it was very fun and enjoying.

The Interschool Reader’s Cup was recently held at Forbes Primary School. There were 10 teams from six schools competing for the challenge of winning medals, a perpetual shield and book vouchers. Our school consisted of Mimi, Ashlee, Madison and Lakin from Year 7. The team had prepared well and finished a very close second.

Leila and Jasmine are admiring the petunias that are growing and flowering in the new JP garden bed. Thanks to Eamon Williams from 1/2 OC for organising groups of reception students from RM to plant these annuals.
THANK YOU
Thank you to Coromandel Valley students and school community who purchased poppies from the office for Remembrance Day. We raised close to $160 for the Mitcham RSL!
Big thank you also to Karen in the office who organised this initiative.
On the 16th November, the Global Initiavties Action Group organised to collect food for Beacon, who are then going to create hampers for local families in need to receive them for Christmas.
We set up a competition for students to bring in as many food items as they could including Christmas, tinned and dry packaged foods. The Global Initiavties Action Group went around to all the classrooms and collected all the food items donated. The Global Initiavties Action Group then sorted the food into two groups, Christmas and other foods.
We are very grateful for the generosity shown by all the school community. In total 800 items of food were donated. The class that donated the most Christmas items was Mr Johnson's class and Ms Carpenter's class collected the most other food. A representative of Beacon came to collect the donated food and was immensely grateful for this generous support.

This term, both Year 3 classes were invited to join volunteers from our neighbouring church group to participate in a wreath making activity to support our current Unit of Inquiry: Traditions.
The learning focus of our Unit of Inquiry: Traditions, is built around the central idea that traditions connect people and are expressed in different ways. Our lines of inquiry involves looking at symbols and elements as different forms of traditions and expressing ideas and beliefs through the Arts.
The program has been facilitated by a former Art Teacher and has involved a group of 10-12 students who have attended this program each Tuesday afternoon over four weeks of this term.
At the conclusion of the four-week program, we have a culminating showcase event to display our wreaths which have been created for parents to view. We will also have the opportunity to share our products with the rest of the school community at our Celebration Night event on Tuesday 11th December.

LAP and KID'S HOPE CHRISTMAS PARTY
On Friday 30th November, students and volunteers who have taken part in Kid’s Hope and the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) came together for an end of year Christmas Party. We were entertained by Greg from Twisted Balloons and each student left with their very own balloon dog.
We are always on the lookout for additional LAP volunteers. If you can spare one half hour each week to provide one to one support for a student, please contact jenny.tucker37@schools.sa.edu.au
We are fortunate to have many wonderful volunteers at Coro who assist with excursions, school sport, in the library, knitting group, uniform shop, Governing Council, Parents and Friends, Pedal Prix, school maintenance and more. Volunteers were invited to morning tea on Friday 30th November to say ‘thankyou’.
Last Thursday, Peter McPheat’s music students held concerts at recess and lunch timesunder the COLA shelter. Students were invited to watch.
At recess - Boston's Rock Band performing a set of rock and surf guitar classics.
At lunch - Music Concert featuring solo, small group and band performances.
Lost property has been placed for viewing in the hallway adjacent to the SSO room.
Please let students and parents know so they can collect any lost items before the end of the year.
Any items remaining at the end of week 9 will be washed and placed in the spares cupboard, or donated to charity.
