Thank you to our Fantastic Volunteers!
This week is National Volunteer Week across Australia. This year’s theme is ‘Connecting Communities’. This is an important time to acknowledge the efforts of parents and friends who volunteer their time and energy to support our school in so many ways. Whether it’s helping in the canteen, assisting in the classroom, coordinating or coaching sports, organising fundraisers, joining excursions, participating in the governing council, staffing the uniform shop, participating in our Learning Assistance Program, Kids Hope, coordinating Book Club or supporting special interest areas – your efforts and support make a huge difference.
Mother’s Day Special Morning/Gift Stall
Well done to our Reception students and their teachers for providing a special morning, sharing gifts with mums and performing a Mother’s Day song.
We would like to extend our thanks to Jodie and all the parents who helped out with our recent Mother’s Day stall. Your time and effort made all the difference in helping students find a special gift for their mums and special people. We hope that all the mums in our school community had a wonderful Mother’s Day and felt appreciated and loved.
National Walk Safely to School Day
On Friday, 16th May many Coro students participated in National Walk Safely to School Day when all primary school children were encouraged to walk and commute safely to school.
Walk Safely to School Day is about considering our transport habits and trying to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around.
Students and families who walked to school were offered a fresh piece of fruit (kindly donated by Magarey Orchard) to help continue their healthy start to the school day. Well done to everyone that took part.

EDUCATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (EMS)
A reminder, our site is scheduled to transition to the EMS on June 2nd this term, with core functions of student administration and financial management.
Our site has chosen to implement a ‘core EMS’ design, meaning we will be using School Admin, Finance and Billing modules to record and manage:
- attendance
- behaviour and wellbeing
- budgets, income and expenditure
- student fees
A new communication platform, EdSmart, will be used in the future to send digital forms, consent and documents to parents.
We will keep you informed on the progress of the EMS rollout and provide information to the broader community through the school newsletter and announcements.
We understand this will be a substantial change to our school administration processes and while we will be expecting a smooth, seamless transition, please be patient through this process. We ask for your support throughout.

We are still 2 weeks away from winter, however, you may be aware that there has been a recent increase in cases of gastro, flu bugs, and COVID within our school community.
To help keep our students, staff, and families safe, we ask for your support in keeping your child home if they are unwell, even if symptoms are mild.
Please check in here with the recommended minimum periods of exclusion from school for cases of, and contact with, infectious diseases – as provided by SA Health.
For specific information related to gastroenteritis (Norovirus) – please visit here, noting that children should be attending school until there has been no vomiting or diarrhoea for 48 hours.
Thank you for helping us protect the health and wellbeing of our school community. Your support is appreciated.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Many students have been enthusiastically reading and filling out their form for this year’s challenge. Keep up the great reading adventure!
If your children would like to enter into the STEM Premier’s Reading Challenge there is still time to read a book and enter your picture, design or invention. Come in and check out the selection of books to start your entry process. For more details, ask us about it at the library or go to https://premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au/app/uploads/2025/04/2025-PRC-STEM-competition-flyer.pdf
This week, on Wednesday at 11.30am, students across the school joined with other children across Australia and read The Truck Cat written by Deborah Frenkel, illustrated by Danny Snell. The story is about cats and humans, immigration and identity and homes lost and found.
During lunchtime, the students had an opportunity to learn how to draw a cat and listen to the story again.

Did you know…
Reading Aloud Strengthens the Brain
- The human brain is like a muscle that grows stronger and changes with use.
- Reading aloud actively engages brain areas involved in language processing, memory and attention.
- Reading aloud helps form and strengthen neurological pathways that support fluent and expressive reading.
- Listening to your child read helps you observe how accurately they decode words and whether they read smoothly or struggle.
- Listening with pride supports both their reading development and brain growth.

Our Lunchtime Science Club has been buzzing with excitement as students explored hands-on activities that has sparked curiosity and creativity! So far this term, the group has investigated the fascinating world of magnets — testing their power, discovering what they attract and even designing their own magnet games. On Tuesday this week, the students embraced a chilly challenge by using tools to chisel ice and create their own mini sculptures. Everyone has had a fantastic time learning and exploring some scientific principles.

SCHOOL SPORT SA MOUNTAIN BIKE CHAMPIONSHIPS
On Friday 9th May, eleven Coro students competed in the School Sport SA Team’s Mountain Bike Championships. A perfect day with lots of sunshine and dust and some very tired students by the end.
Coro entered 4 teams, including our first ever mixed team.
Held at Craigburn Farm Recreation Park, the event brought together schools from all across South Australia over 100 teams competing in the 2 hour race. The course was a mix of uphill and down hill, taking an average of ten to twelve minutes to complete each lap. Teams were tasked with completing as many laps as possible within the 2 hour time limit.
Results:
Boys (100 teams) – 13th, 17th and 66th
Mixed (9 teams) – 5th
Thank you to the families for supporting our team at this event.

All our runners showed great effort and sportsmanship and should be proud of their achievements.
A huge THANK YOU to Emma Harrison, Rachel Quinton, and Carrie Julian for their help throughout the day. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without you.
Mr De Lyster
Last week, we took a boys team and a girls team to play in the Statewide Schools Netball Carnival at Netball SA Stadium.
The girls fought hard today and came out 4th overall.
Our first game was against Flagstaff Hill, which we won, 16 - 12. We followed that up with a close game against St Peter’s Woodlands, losing to them by just one goal. Our third game was our best, showing determination and fight for an awesome comeback. We were three goals down at half time and ended up winning against Westminster 17 - 11. We went into finals with some tough competition and unfortunately lost against Colonel Light Gardens and Highgate, placing us fourth out of the Large Schools Pool. It was a great day overall and the girls should be incredibly proud of the games they played.
The boys played 5 games, winning 2 and losing 3. They started their campaign against School Of The Nativity, who they beat easily. They then lost to Edwardstown, followed by another victory against Edwardstown. In the last two matches they were beaten by St Anthonys and Colonel Light Gardens. The boys played their best all day and showed great sportsmanship throughout the carnival.
