As we return from the mid-year break, we would like to thank everyone in our school community for your ongoing support and engagement throughout the first half of the 2025 school year.
We hope you had a safe and restful holiday with your children and are feeling refreshed for the second half of the year. A special thank you to the many families who continue to support our school through volunteering—your time and contributions are greatly appreciated.
We’re excited for the term ahead and the many opportunities it brings for our students to learn and grow. With a range of events, activities, and learning experiences planned, Term 3 promises to be a busy and rewarding time.
We look forward to sharing a positive and productive Term 3 with you all.
Welcome – new reception students, families and Mrs Taylor
A very special welcome to our 21 new Reception students and families who began their school journey with us on Tuesday.
A warm welcome back, too, to Adele Taylor, who joins our team, working with the new students, as well as our existing reception team.
Welcome – International Students
This week we also welcomed seven new students who are visiting from China and will be attending our school for five weeks.
We have one family with two siblings who are from China’s capital, Beijing. The other three families are from Chongqing, a large city in southwestern China.
We extend a special welcome to these families and hope they enjoy their time in our community.
Good Luck Penelope
Over the next week, one of our Year 6 students, Penelope Blackwell, will be competing in the World BMX Championships in Denmark. Penny is the current Australian & world champion for her age group, and we wish her all the very best in the upcoming events.
Thank you to everyone who supported our casual day at the end of last term. We raised approximately $600, with the proceeds supporting Penny’s participation at the championships.
Year 3 & 5 NAPLAN
NAPLAN reports will be sent home within the next two weeks. NAPLAN reports show how children are tracking against four achievement levels known as proficiency levels.
The proficiency levels are:
- Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
Therefore, “If your child is in the Strong or Exceeding category, it means they have demonstrated proficiency and that their literacy or numeracy skills are where they should be at this stage of their schooling. If your child has not yet achieved proficiency, then they will either be in the Developing category or the Needs additional support category.” (ACARA CEO, David de Carvalho)
Below are some of the ways that our teachers provide additional support through quality teaching practice to meet learner’s diverse needs:
- intentional teaching – building on strengths, interests, ideas and needs
- explicit teaching
- gradual release of responsibility
- modelling: I do it
- guided instruction: we do it
- collaborative learning: you do it together
- independent learning: you do it alone
- graduated tasks: easy tasks to hard tasks
- inquiry based learning
- cooperative learning – working with others
- thinking routines – strategies that can be used repeatedly to promote and support thinking
- scaffolding
- providing materials that reflect a variety of cultures, environments and settings such as those experienced by students from non-English-speaking environments.
- stocking the classroom with a range of quality resources to engage learners of different abilities
- providing alternative representations of resources
- visual and technological supports.

GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL PERSONS DAY
other extended family, family friends, to name just a few. We would like to extend a warm invitation to all the special people in our students’ lives, for an afternoon of music, fun and celebration on Tuesday 12th August (Week 4).
12:50 – 1:30pm
The afternoon will kick off with some busking. All students who learn an instrument at Coro will have an opportunity to perform in a location around the school, as directed by their instrumental teachers. Visitors will be able to wander around and listen to a wide variety of musical stylings, and offer a coin or two for the hats out the front of each performer or group. All money raised will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
1:40pm-2:45pm
The busking will be followed up by a magnificent concert, in the gym, with the following performances:
-
-
- JUNIOR CHOIR
- INSTRUMENTAL SOLOISTS
- SENIOR CHOIR
- RECORDER ENSEMBLE
- STRINGS TRIO
- JUMP ROPE
- JUNIOR PRIMARY SINGING
-
During the concert, we would like to prioritise seating for our older visitors.
We hope to see many special visitors on Tuesday 12th August!
Frank Smith Reserve will be open for parking.
What an exciting term we have planned in the library!
Diving into the magical adventures of stories, we will be celebrating the Children’s Book Council Association’s (CBCA) Book Week 2025 this term from August 16–23!
Some of the activities to enjoy will include:
- a special visit by Danny Snell, a well-known illustrator of children’s book
- some fun book/ writing opportunities, organised by the Literacy Leaders
- competitions to enter
- our well-loved Book Week Parade on Friday 22nd August.
As the excitement builds, we look forward to celebrating the wonders of books, and the enchantment they bring to us all.
We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the parade, to celebrate with all the students.

Harry from year 1 and his younger brother Lachlan (3yrs), were lucky enough to be chosen to be extras, in the adaptation of Miles Franklin's beloved Australian novel, My Brilliant Career into a major Netflix series.
Over 3 days of shooting in the Barossa, Harry was able to see what it was like to be on set of a major production and the many cast and crew which were involved to create the film. Dressed in typical 1900's fashion, Harry played the part of one of the local children.
Harry is grateful for the experience and enjoyed being part of the film.
On Monday the 16th of June, Harry and Jack played golf at Flagstaff Hill Golf Club for a SAPSASA tournament.
Despite the shocking weather conditions, they had an absolutely fantastic time participating in the 9 Hole - Under 12 Qualifier at Flagstaff Hill Golf Course. Jack and Harry supported each other throughout the day, showing great teamwork and resilience. The boys made the most of what the course had to offer and really enjoyed the experience, rain and all!
Harry came 1st in the under 12’s in a group of 30 to 40 people. Congratulations to Harry for being selected to compete in the state final.
Congratulations to Theo, Julian, and Brandon for being selected to play on the Southern Heights Football (soccer) team. The boys will play in the State Carnival against other districts over three days in August. We hope they play well and have fun too.
