It’s hard to believe how quickly 2025 is moving…Summer and Christmas are just around the corner! Term 4 seems to move from one event to the next. Last week was the Colour Run, while this week is all about Year 3-6 Dance Night. Our older students are very much looking forward to sharing their dance skills this evening at the Capri Theatre.
Monty’s Slime Colour Run
Thank you for all your support. Our Monty’s Slime Colour Run was a huge success. We raised a great amount of money, a few staff members were slimed, and students had a lot of fun.
It was fantastic to see the spirit and enthusiasm displayed in supporting our school. Seeing the smiles on the students’ faces and everyone coming together as they ran was fantastic.
We raised $16226, which will go toward new cubby houses for the JP playground. These have been ordered and will hopefully be in place by the end of the school year.
With all of your hard work and effort, we have also been able to assist some great causes with some fantastic donations!
A huge thank you to Jodie M, who did a wonderful job coordinating our event. Thank you also to all the volunteers who helped out on the day.
Again, our most sincere thanks for your support and fundraising efforts.
Congratulations Sarah!
At this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebration, Sarah Todd was honoured with the School Australian Science Teachers' Association (SASTA) Honour Award, recognising her outstanding contribution to science education in South Australia. What a fantastic achievement - Well done, Sarah.
World Teachers Day Thanks
Thank you to our students and families who acknowledged our teachers last Friday as part of celebrating World Teachers’ Day. Your kind messages and thoughtful tokens of appreciation were warmly received. If you would like to share your appreciation further, you can also do so through the Department for Education’s ThankED initiative — a wonderful way to recognise staff across public education who make a difference every day.
Final Student Free Day
A reminder that our remaining Student Free Day for 2025 is this Friday, 7th November. On this day, school staff are very much looking forward to working with Mat Haslett, our Behaviour Support Educator, for half a day, with Kate O’Driscoll leading staff for the second part of the day, with a focus on Robotics and the learning progressions from Reception to Year 6. This will involve hands-on activities with a range of robotic equipment we have here at Coro.
Save the Date – Celebration Night – Tuesday 9 December
We are very much looking forward to our annual Celebration Night on Tuesday, 9 December, when our community comes together to enjoy festive songs from students/staff, including end of year presentations and farewells. Please save the date, and stay tuned for further details.
Reception Transition
Reception Transition days for our start of 2026 Reception Intake will occur on Wednesdays of Weeks 5, 6 and 7, being the 12th, 19th and 26th of November. We are looking forward to meeting and acquainting our new enrolments with what a small sample of school life is all about at Coro.
Planning for 2026
Planning is underway for the 2026 school year, which includes organising staffing, class structures and placements. To assist with our planning, we would appreciate it if you could advise us if your child(ren) will not continue their schooling at Coromandel Valley PS next year. If this is the case, please contact the school via phone 8278 3693 or email dl.0104.info@schools.sa.edu.au This does not include any current Year 6 students. Thank you.
Church Car Parking Reminder
Reminder - This car park is not a kiss-and-drop zone!
The school and the church have an agreement that allows families to park around the church on school days for the specific sign-posted times.
The agreement specifies that parking is only in the area surrounding the driveway, around the perimeter of the church block. The church is a heritage listed building with shallow foundations.
Parking or standing next to the church building is not permitted. Please do not park in front of the chained area or on the lawn next to the hall.
Please enter the gate and move in an anti-clockwise direction to find a car park.
If the parks are full do not stop and wait in the road area as this further congests the flow of parents who wish to drive around, and use Kiss and Drop as an alternative.
We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines and ask that you communicate this information to other family members who may be picking up your child.

Did you know... more than 60 students from Years 3-6 currently represent our school playing weeknight basketball at the Blackwood Rec Centre?
All Out of Hours School Sports are run by volunteers, without whom we cannot run the programs. For the past few years, we have been incredibly grateful to Jason Holmes for taking on the role of Basketball Coordinator. We are now searching for the next wonderful volunteer(s) to hand the reins over to for 2026. The role involves forming and registering teams, and supporting coaches and team managers throughout the season. Sports Coordinators are supported by the school leadership team; however, without a basketball coordinator, the sport cannot be offered at Coro.
If you’re at all interested in helping to ensure that we can continue to offer out of hours school basketball at Coro, we’d love to chat! Please email Kate (Kate.ODriscoll722@schools.sa.edu.au) or come and say hi at the front office.
If going at it solo is not your thing, Sports Coordinator roles can be very successfully shared. So why not get together with a friend and team up to help get the basketball teams playing in 2026!

As part of our inquiry into ‘Art and Artists’, the Year 2’s visited the Art Gallery. A special thank you to our parent volunteers for making the excursion possible.
Jasper (2T) - “On our guided tour, it was so fascinating. My favourite thing was the cube explosion, it looked like Minecraft.”
Nyla (2GB) - “We had a tour of the gallery and I felt so happy. I really liked the Red Web and the upside-down tree.
Kai (2OT) - "I learnt that anything can be art! I liked how in the red string room it looked like a spider web"
Parker (2T) - “Downstairs in the Tarnanthi aboriginal art there was a ball with spears, and it is to remind us about the bomb testing and the glass represents the black mist that came down from the sky. I felt calm.”
Tyler (2GB) - “I liked the glass box landscape with hills, people and skeletons. I felt happy, calm, excited and peaceful.
Mia LD (2OT) - “I liked the hanging tree, it was real leaves on the floor and the shadows looked like it was lots of trees but it was just one tree"
Greta (2T) - “In my small group, we saw some really cool stuff. I felt happy and I went into a room with red string. It was all around the room.”
Patterson (2OT) - "I enjoyed learning about all the different art pieces, there was one that was just lots of spoons!"
Hamish (2GB) - “We got to make our own cool superhero stickers. I made a ninja that had firepower.
Edward (2OT) - "I liked the hanging horse, it looked like a real horse but it was a sculpture"

4G’S FLAG-MAKING ART PROJECT – A COLOURFUL COLLABORATION!
Last term, 4G enjoyed getting creative with a very special art project led by Vivienne’s grandmother, Sally Owen. Together, the class made ten large flags (1.2m square) to be used on festive occasions at the school.
The students collectively designed the flags — four representing the school sports teams and six joyful “happy face” flags to spread colour and cheer around the grounds.
Students worked in groups of three alongside Sally to cut and place the fabric pieces for each design. The flags, made from durable sail cloth, were sewn using applique and zigzag stitching.
Sally invited volunteers from our community to help by sewing a flag at home, and many kind helpers contributed their time and creativity to bring the project to life.
A huge thank you to Sally for sharing her skills and enthusiasm, and to everyone who helped make 4G’s flag project such a colourful success!

Students from 4/5SH, 5T and 5BG recently participated in a morning of ‘tinkering’.
In small groups, they used a range of different tools to take apart electronic items with the goal of identifying the different components of devices and making suggestions of their function and purposes. Many groups then took on the challenge of trying to reconstruct the original product, or, connecting back to our earlier unit of a War on Waste, decide how best to dispose of the different materials.
Students worked collaboratively across the three classes, using flexible thinking, problem-solving skills and having a great time tinkering.
INTERSCHOOL CHESS STATE TITLES
After 3 terms of preliminary zone tournaments involving 25 schools from across the state, Coromandel Valley PS qualified as one of the sixteen teams to take part in the SA Chess State Titles. Our qualifying rank allowed us to enter 5 students, and our best performed students over the year were selected for the State Titles team. Amelia, Dakota, Levi, Lydia and Olivia made the long trip to Salisbury East to take part, with all competing at the state titles level for the first time.
With only the best schools making it to the finals, and with some of the schools qualifying up to 13 players, it was always going to be a tough tournament, but our Coro team did exceptionally well, as one of the youngest and smallest teams taking part.
The tournament hall was a picture of concentration, with over 130 students doing their best for their respective schools. It was an extremely close competition, with the top 4 teams separated by only 1.0 point. Rose Park Primary took out the State Titles, just 0.5 in front of Prescott College in 2nd, with Burnside Primary a further 0.5 points behind in 3rd. Coromandel Valley finished in 8th place - a fantastic achievement given the competition.
Coromandel Valley has had an extremely successful year in chess, finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the term zone-based tournaments, and 5th in the recent Girls Only tournament. Well done to all the Coro students who have taken part in tournaments across the year.

In Week 3, Coromandel Valley PS attended the SA Schools Orienteering Championships, in which 40 of our Year 4, 5, and 6 students competed.
The event was held at Belair National Park, and the running conditions were perfect, with cloud cover and a light drizzle throughout the day.
Students have been learning about orienteering in PE, and this was a good chance to put their knowledge and skills to the test. Our students performed very well, and our school was the overall winner! In fact, we scored as many points as the second and third placed schools combined.
All our participants should be congratulated on doing a great job and for their impeccable behaviour throughout the day.
Special mention to our placegetters, all of whom scored points for our school:

A big thank you to all the parents who assisted with supervision and organisation of students. Excursions like this can’t run without your help and we are always grateful to you for generously volunteering your time.

OLIPHANT SCIENCE AWARD SUCCESS!
We are thrilled to announce that Coromandel Valley Primary School has achieved outstanding results in this year’s Oliphant Science Awards. The Oliphant Science Awards celebrate creativity, innovation, and a love of science among South Australian students, and our school’s achievements highlight the enthusiasm and hard work of our young scientists.
This year, several of our students and classes were recognised for their exceptional efforts:
- Eddy – 1st Place, Science Writing
Eddy impressed the judges with his thoughtful and engaging piece that demonstrated a deep understanding of scientific concepts and excellent communication skills. - William – 1st Place, Models and Inventions
William’s creative and well-engineered model showcased problem-solving, innovation, and practical application of scientific ideas. - Coromandel Valley Primary School – 1st Place, Citizen Science Category
Award received by Caleb & Ella, on behalf of Coro school.
These awards are a wonderful reflection of our students’ passion for science, their curiosity about the world around them, and their willingness to think critically and creatively. We are incredibly proud of all our students who took part in the Oliphant Science Awards and would like to thank the teachers and families who supported them along the way.
Congratulations to Eddy, William, and everyone involved for representing Coromandel Valley Primary School with excellence and enthusiasm.
YOUTH ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS AT CVPS
Youth Environmental Leaders Welcome Schools and Celebrate a Year of Success
This term, our Youth Environmental Leaders proudly hosted a special event to welcome students and teachers from partnering schools to Coromandel Valley Primary School. The day was a celebration of environmental learning, leadership, and community connection, supported by Green Adelaide.
Our student leaders prepared and led a school tour, showcasing the many sustainability initiatives and projects we’ve developed throughout the year. Guests explored our gardens, native habitat areas, and outdoor learning spaces, while hearing about the passion and teamwork behind each project.
Students from all participating schools shared presentations about their work on projects, which allowed for reflection, connection and shared care for the environment.
One of the highlights of the day was a special visit and workshop from Aunty Elaine, who helped us connect to the land and understand the importance of caring for Country. Her words encouraged students to reflect on how environmental stewardship and cultural connection go hand in hand.
A huge thank you to Green Adelaide for their ongoing support and to all the visiting schools who joined us in making this event such a positive and inspiring experience!

CVPS TAKES PART IN THE AUSSIE BIRD COUNT
This year, Coromandel Valley Primary School proudly participated in the Aussie Bird Count, a national citizen science project run by BirdLife Australia. Each class at our school took part by observing and recording the native birdlife around our grounds and local area.
In total, our school submitted 19 bird counts, contributing valuable data to help scientists track changes in bird populations across the country.
The activity not only supported real-world science but also encouraged our students to connect with nature, build observation skills, and appreciate the biodiversity in our community. The weather didn’t stop us collecting data for science!
We’re thrilled to have played our part in supporting citizen science and protecting Australia’s unique birdlife!

Congratulations to Eva and Sienna on being selected to play in the Southern Heights district team at the 3-day State Carnival. They played 8 games - winning 5 and losing 3 - and finished in 3rd place. Well done girls.

Did you know .....
At CVPS, we are taking matters of sustainability into our own hands through a club we created called the Environmental Club. Our club aims to inspire kids to be sustainable and look after the community for years to come.
Quick Tips, that you might like to try at home .....
- You can put tea bags and tissues in the compost bin, as well as paper towels
- You can get a compost bin from your local council
- You can get a worm farm at Woolworths for $34.95 and do your part for the community, and provide good nutrients for your plants and soil
- You can put your vacuum cleaner dust in the compost bin
- You can even put cardboard in the compost bin if it's not painted or glazed
- Compost bins are very small and don't take up too much space, and are very easy to look after
