Last Monday students made Harmony day the focus at our Assembly sharing a piece of work to show their connection with their own, or another culture. Thanks to Mr Yamamoto and the Global Learners group who helped us to understand the importance of cultural diversity and valuing perspectives.
Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
By now all parents and caregivers will have received information from classroom teachers about attending a 3 way discussion during either Wk 10 or 11 of term 1. The 3 way discussion allows an opportunity to talk about the year so far, student learning needs and provides the opportunity to develop specific measurable and attainable learning goals. We believe that learning is enhanced when students are central to this process and feel the support around them. It has been great to observe staff and students working collaboratively to shape these discussions. I look forward to the continued support of our by families taking the opportunity to join in 3 way discussion.
We are always very grateful for the support given to our students from parents and families volunteering their time, in a multitude of different ways, to enrich learning experiences. As part of a new Department requirement, parents, family members and volunteers are asked to complete an application form and have a discussion with site representatives regarding the specific role they are volunteering for at the school. Volunteer application forms are available with this newsletter and more information can be provided by phoning the school. As this is a new process we will gradually meet with all existing volunteers to collect applications and interview.
In addition to this all volunteers are required to complete Responding to Abuse and neglect training and a volunteer induction course. This can be done online or as face to face training. The following link takes you to an online training module where you can nominate to complete the course as a volunteer working within a school setting
