ACQUAINTANCE NIGHT/ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Acquaintance Night
This year we will be holding Acquaintance night in Wk. 3 on Tuesday 12th Februaury. Acquaintance Night gives families the opportunity to visit their child's new classroom and hear about routines and approaches from the classroom teacher/s. An email will be sent to all families next week to provide more information about this event and meeting times for different year levels. A BBQ will be also be available on the night.
Annual General Meeting
At 7:15pm, after Acquaintance night, we would like to invite parents to our Governing Council Annual General Meeting which will be held in the school library. At the Annual General Meeting we will share the annual report and elect new council members, who hold office for 2 years.
The governance of Coromandel Valley Primary School is a joint responsibility between the Principal and the Governing Council.
The Governing Council is made up of representatives of all the major stakeholders in the school. It comprises of the Principal, one staff rep and parent representatives. Parent representatives are elected each year at the AGM and hold office for 2 years.
The concept of a Governing Council recognizes that the best educational outcomes are achieved when there is a strong and active partnership between home and school.
Parents are encouraged to stand for Governing Council. Council work allows you to gain an understanding of the workings of the School and to contribute to its long term success. A Governing Council nomination form is available in the forms section of this Newsletter
Council meetings are held twice a term. In addition, Councillors sit on one of Council's sub-committees. The school required sub-committees are:
- Finance
- Sports
- Canteen
- Out Of School Hours Care
Additionally we have elected to have the following sub-committees:
- Grounds
- Parents and Friends
- ICT
We look forward to seeing new and existing parents and caregivers at both of these events.
Is your child ‘asthma ready’ for school?
It’s back to school time, however every year there is a sharp rise in the number of asthma flare-ups for children when they return to school after the Summer holidays. This results in a significant increase in Emergency Department visits, hospitalisations and days off school. Not only is this unsettling for children as they start a new year at school, but often it impacts on time off work for the parents/carers also.
School staff play a key role in supporting children to stay safe and manage the risk of asthma flare-ups at the back to school time.
To tackle this, Asthma Australia is partnering with TerryWhite Chemmart to encourage parents and carers to put their child’s Asthma Plan at the top of their back to school list.

First Aid
Great to see so many students interested in participating in an after school sport. We have received many nomination forms for Basketball and Cricket. The sport nomination form can be found in the forms section of this Newsletter.
We are currently seeking the support of a parent/volunteer to work alongside Kylie Zervaas to support with the coordination of our Basketball teams. We are also looking for someone to work alongside Nikki Tilley to support with the coordination of the Netball programme, which begins next term. Please contact the school or send us an email if you are able to help out in either of these positions Phone:82783693 email karen.hayes453@schools.sa.edu.au
