Last week some of our Year 5 and 6 students competed in the SA Schools Orienteering Relay Championships. Nineteen schools attended the event, which was held at Kensington Park Reserve on an unseasonably beautiful, sunny day.

Students ran the relay in teams of two. The first runner navigated a 2.2km course, before tagging the second runner who then navigated a different course of the same length. The results were calculated from their combined times.

Students have been learning about orienteering in PE and many of them have gone on to hone their map-reading skills at other orienteering events and were confident of doing well at the Relay Championship.

All our students should be congratulated on doing a great job!

In the boys’ primary school team category, we managed to take out the Championship – a fantastic result in our first year in the competition!

A special congratulations to Flynn F and Kalem W, who were the fastest primary school team and were each awarded a first-place medal. The boys were in a neck and neck battle with a team from Echunga. The final sprint to the finish line proved the difference, with our boys finishing with a time of 30:20, two seconds ahead of their rivals.
