There were lots of reasons to feel grateful last Saturday 25 July – we live in SA, the weather was beautiful with blue sky and sunshine, we have a wonderful setting at Frank Smith Park…and our kids got to start the school soccer season, something we really weren’t sure was going to happen this year.

Many thanks to our coaches – Harrison Vandeleur (Seniors), Dave Merritt (U10s), Rob Nadin (U9s), Paul Cocks (U8 Blue) and Tony Brown (U8 White), and team managers Rebecca Vandeleur, Nikki Maas, Tara Goeing, Lizzy Armstrong and Suzie Coldwell for all your efforts to get the season underway, and to the many parents who helped set up and pack up at our first home game on Saturday. Everything ran very smoothly.

We are also very pleased to present our new soccer shirts, proudly worn by our U10 and U8 White teams – more teams to follow next year!

Our five teams have had a great start, here are some highlights –

Under 8 White played against Belair and won 7-1. It was an absolutely fantastic first game for the season and first ever game for many of our players too. Everyone got in and participated and had lots of fun. Archer was our most prolific scorer, Cassian and Joseph also scored. Amazing effort!

Under 8 Blue played against Unley and lost 2-6. Everyone was super focused and excited, some for their first game ever. An awesome team effort and they can’t wait for the next game!

Under 9s played Eden Hills in a 1-1 draw. All players showed fantastic teamwork. They were very excited and are looking forward to next week’s match.

Under 10s started their season with a tough game against St John the Baptist and went down 2-6, but they played well and supported each other throughout the game. For many, this was their first match on a full-sized pitch and a big step up – there were some tired kids by the final whistle!

Seniors played Glenelg and won 12-0 in a fantastic start to the season. A big thank you to the U10s who stepped up and played in Seniors and scored many of the goals. Special mention for Elliot who scored the first goal in his first ever match! Goal scorers were Elliot, Nick, Sonny, Luciano, Daniel and Romeo. It was also great to have Flynn (on crutches) supporting us from the sidelines.
