YEAR 2 LOCAL PLACES EXCURSION
Year 2 Excursions: Exploring and Connecting with Our Local Places
In Term 3, Year 2 students delved into how people connect with the stories and features of different places. Each class participated in two local field trips—one to Frank Smith Park and another to Blackwood Forest.
At Frank Smith Park, students observed and sketched various features, including natural, constructed, and managed elements. They reflected on the park’s history and took note of native plants, which they learned about from Uncle Tamaru, who shared insights into their traditional uses.
Their next adventure took them to Blackwood Forest, where they explored the natural environment and engaged in nature play. They connected with Country by sharing their class Acknowledgments on Kaurna land and practised respect for the environment throughout their visit.
During these trips, students also reflected on the vital work of the Friends of Blackwood Forest and Friends of Frank Smith Park. These dedicated volunteers ensure that these special places are maintained for everyone to enjoy.
These experiences provided students with a valuable opportunity to connect with their local surroundings and deepen their understanding of the history and cultural significance of these places.
