YEAR 5 HISTORY OF ADELAIDE EXCURSION

On the 6th of May the year 5s, went on an excursion to the busy, busy city. We enjoyed our experience on the Popeye along the Torrens River. Our tour guide told us cool facts about the history of the buildings on the river bank. Our tour on the Popeye started at the Convention Centre and looped all the way to the back of the zoo. Some of us could even see the bats! After our Popeye trip we caught the bus to the West Terrace Cemetery. We split into groups and looked for the graves of some very important people to S.A who we researched about. We walked around to find them and when we saw the graves we read some information on a plaque that was in front of the grave. And boy, we have never seen so many war memorials! After all of that we had some lunch, hopped on the bus and went back to a normal day. We all enjoyed our trip and visiting the city.

On Monday sixth of May the year five classes went on an excursion for our unit of inquiry. On the excursion we went on the Popeye, a boat that goes up and down the Torrens River, and we went to the West Terrace Cemetery. On Popeye the man operating it told us about the landscape on the riverbank and all of the buildings. Did you know that there is going to be another Adelaide hospital? It will be one of three hospitals on the Adelaide Plains. After that we took the bus to the West Terrace Cemetery to look at the graves of people that were important to South Australia.

When we went on the Popeye, the captain told us many interesting facts such as people used to swim laps of the River Torrens. On the 6 of May the year fives went on an excursion to the Popeye and the West Terrace Cemetery. On the Popeye we drifted along the River Torrens which in Kaurna is Karrawirra Pari. The captain of the Popeye told us about the history of South Australia, like that some people used to swim laps of the river. When we went to the Cemetery we looked at the people’s graves that we had researched, like Mary Colton and Ethel Davidson. Also when we went to the cemetery we looked at all the army graves.  When we were at the cemetery we didn’t know where the people’s graves were, so we had to walk around the whole cemetery.
